Climate Emergency Declaration

There's no planet B

Climate Emergency Declaration

As a GP practice our wider role includes promoting wellbeing, reducing inequalities and supporting you to thrive in our community.

We are extremely concerned about the current climate crisis, and recognise this is also a health crisis with public health threats now and for future generations such as;

  •  Flooding
  •  Heatwaves
  •  Air pollution

We also recognise what is good for the planet is good for us. In the UK we could save 123,000 lives a year trying to reach Net 0 through*;
     -   Active travel
     -   Dietary changes
     -   Improved air quality

*The public health implications of the Paris Agreement: a modelling study, The Lancet, February 2021, www.thelancet.com/journals/lanplh/article/PIIS2542-5196(20)30249-7/fulltext#seccestitle10

We know that as a practice all our clinical and non-clinical activity has a carbon footprint.

We have measured our non-clinical carbon footprint and are taking active steps across all our activities to reduce this. We are committed to reaching net 0 carbon emissions, aiming to do this over the next 10 years.

We hope you will join us and take some steps yourself to tackle the current climate emergency. We hope you feel free to talk to your GP or any of the team at Berry Lane medical centre about the climate crisis and its impacts on your health.
